808 Grindz Cafe is the number one spot that you must eat at when you go to Maui! They are famously known for their Loco Mocos, Mac Nut Pancakes, and their very reasonable prices!
808 Grindz’s Loco Mocos was the best out of all the ones I’ve tried in Maui, but the true star was their Mac Nut Pancakes with Mac Nut sauce. The pancakes tasted like nothing I’ve ever had before and were on a league of its own when compared to The Gazebo (another restaurant famous for their Mac Nut Pancakes). If there is one thing in Maui that you MUST try, it would be these Pancakes.
The price range for their dishes are extremely reasonable (Maui standards) with each dish being around $8, while similar dishes would cost around $15 at different restaurants.
Road to Hana doesn’t have the best food in Maui, but it does have the most beautiful destinations in all of the island.
The actual road when traveling to Hana is an arduous one. This is one of the roads where it starts off with two very narrow lanes and there are many instances where they merge into one lane roads where you may have to pull over to let opposite traffic pass. Drive very slowly when on this road!
However, once you get used to the difficult lanes, there are many amazing pit stops all along the way. Things you must check out are the popular beaches such as the black sand beach and red sand beach (YES THEY ARE ACTUALLY THAT COLOR). For amazing photo opportunities Wailua Falls and the Bamboo forest are simply amazing.
If you are feeling like you need a refreshment during your drive to Hana, coconut glen’s is a nice ice cream truck that serves amazing coconut ice cream! Definitely my favorite coconut dessert in all of Maui!
Ululani’s Hawaiian Shaved ice is number 3 on the list.
The freshly shaved ice is so fluffy, it feels like you’re touching fresh snow. The workers fill up a paper bowl full of the shaved ice and proceed to poke holes to allow their signature syrup to drizzle all over it. I definitely recommend getting the coconut, passion fruit, and lychee flavors and adding mochi as an additional topping.
The shaved ice is very fine, so make sure you start eating it quickly before it starts melting!
Ululani’s was the only spot I went to three times – that’s how good it was!
The Poke in Maui is some of the freshest!
You can tell how fresh the poke is by how silky smooth the tuna is. Once poke is out for a day, it becomes slightly mushy (like how it usually tastes like in the Bay Area). Since all the poke is usually fresh in Maui, the the thing that sets them a part is their delicious sauce!
My top 2 favorite poke was the “Ninja” from Tamuras and the “Furikake” poke from Eskimo Candy. I usually like my poke slightly sweet, but if you prefer more salty and sesame flavored poke, I really recommend Food Lands. Even though Food Lands is a super market, they have an extensive amount of flavors.
The Fish Market has my favorite fish tacos in Maui.
When you first walk into The Fish Market, the first thing that catches your eye is how extensive their menu is. The restaurant is sectioned off into two parts – one side sells tacos and chowder and the other side sells poke and raw fishes.
Their poke is decent, but it’s all about the fish tacos! Nearly all their customers that go in will order a tacos and maybe the chowder. The choices of meats for the basic tacos are fish, shrimp, and kalua pork, but the star of the show is definitely the Baja fish tacos. Crispy, light, and juicy the Baja fish tacos were so good, I visited this place twice! I’m sure that the combination of extremely fresh fish and just an amazing recipe is what made The Fish Market just so much better than their competitors.
If you go to Maui, this is the number #1 thing I would recommend to eat!
